Typographic Code

A typographic code based around typesetting. When setting type, all characters are viewed upside down and the wrong way round; they are also kept in specific order not related to the alphabet, but to how often each letter is used. Our code is to help typesetters with the recognition and position re-call of type.

As typesetting is a dying art form, we decided to produce a book to make it easier for typesetters to learn and remember the order in which type is kept. The shape and size of the letters relate to the space they occupy in a traditional typecase.

Permanent Shadows

An investigation into the permanent shadows left behind when the atomic bomb exploded in Hiroshima. My aim was to capture, on paper, something perceived to be temporary and uncontrollable.

Whatever You Think

Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite.

Entitled ‘Second Skin’ the images aim to provoke an uncomfortable feeling of being trapped in the ‘wrong skin’, an emotion widely experienced by members of the cross-gender community. The images capture the compulsion to physically break out. The images were displayed in the 'Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite' Photographic Exhibition at the Arden and Andstruther Gallery, they are also my first pieces of work to be sold!

New Religion - Total Knowledge

There is a lot of information missing within religion. Our new religion ‘Total Knowledge’ respects that if religion is supposed to be a guide to life, people should have all the information available before making any personal choices; even choices such as which sign to follow. To elaborate on this theme we labelled our clothes accordingly, and produced a ‘project log’ to give all the information about the project.

DRAW/POINT/SHOOT

A project investigating how photographs could be customised. By drawing illustrations on a 'plate' which is placed in the film gate, the image drawn on the plate will appear on each photograph, the plates can be cleaned and re-used creating a process to produce countless original images.
